Client Ashley was kind enough to let the world into her closet and allow Do Something Different Media Marketing to film me as I worked with her. Ashley came to Trust in Tricia because she was feeling overwhelmed by her wardrobe. In her own words she had”too many clothes but not enough outfits”. Approaching 30 and looking for a career change she realized one of the first obstacles she had to overcome was her appearance. How do you dress for a job you don’t even have yet? Surely it cant be by wearing clothes you’ve had since high school and college! But exactly how does a 30 year old dress up professionally without looking too immature or too matronly??

I helped Ashley solve all her problems with a style evaluation, closet analysis and look book. We sat and discussed the issues she was facing, and how she would like to present herself to the world. Then she showed me all of her clothes. I selected pieces I felt were appropriate for her next phase in life and made work and interview appropriate outfits out of them. Together we edited many outdated pieces from her wardrobe and organized her closet in a way that it was set for success- organized and filled with only appropriate pieces. Her look book will now help her keep track of the many outfit options shes has with her versatile pieces and make getting dressed quick and stress free! For the first episode of Fashion Buzz I visited Crush Boutique. Though this popular boutique is no newbie to the Boston fashion scene (they opened the first store in 2007 on Charles St), they are new to Newbury St! That is where they opened their second store just last month! Why Newbury St you ask? Well so did I! Use colors that are in the same color family. It could be all neutrals, earth tones, brights, pastels, jewel tones, cool colors, warm colors, etc. This also includes using different hues of the same color. This could mean for example,  a melon with a bright coral, pale yellow with a sunshine shade, or a sea-foam with turquoise.

Use opposite colors on the color wheel. (Yes, the color wheel from elementary school is now coming in handy for something!) Colors that are opposite each other are complimentary colors and bring out the best of each other.

Use Spring’s hottest colors. Pantone provided us with this season’s top shades, so why not pair them together?! Make a statement with tangerine tango and solar power worn together! (The top two colors) 

The quickest stress free way to colorblock? Buy something pre-blocked!

A good general rule of thumb is to keep your colorblocking between 2-5  different colors. Any more could border a child’s art project!

Easiest ways to colorblock with what you already own: Grab a pair of pants in one color, a different colored but complimentary top and then add a pop color belt to break it up!

Or use accessories! Shoes, purses, belts, scarves, statement necklaces, earrings and bracelets are always great ways to incorporate color. Now you can do so with out feeling like you can only wear them with black or white clothing! A lime green belt with navy pants and a yellow top? Absolutely!

How to wear them correctly: for an all over relaxed look, pair them with a flowy top or tunic and flat sandals. For a more polished look pair with a fitted top or tank and blazer or cardigan. Belt a flowy top to accentuate your waist, or for a little sex appeal or to elongate legs, wear with a cropped top.

What else I love about these bottoms? They can give your ensemble a whole new flavor! You can choose a tribal print and pair with bold wooden jewelry, a  stripe for a nautical flare with a floppy hat, opt for a peek a boo sheer pair and so on and so on!
