Bathing Suit Cover Ups

A recent trip to Martha’s Vineyard reminded me of how much I love beach fashion- the sunglasses, hats, oversized beach bags, fancy flip flops. But most of all it reminded me how valuable cover ups are. Whether you are a little self conscious, or have to be “dressed” enough to stroll shops and restaurants while still wearing your bathing suit, don’t leave home without a versatile cover up. My favorites?

Sarongs- They can be tied to be worn as a shirt, skirt or dress depending on how much covering up you desire. But then at night they also double as a scarf or shawl for when the weather cools down. Another bonus is that they are compact and fit in almost anything you are bringing to the beach.

Tunics- Love the fashion forward appeal here. You can go solid, printed, embellished, or sheer. Its a great way to incorporate color if you’ve got a solid or neutral bathing suit, and many times can even double as shirt to be worn with jeans or leggings and a tank underneath towards summer’s end

Sheer Pants- when else can you wear see through pants and get away with it?! Enough said!

Thin Dresses- can be worn with or without a swim suit underneath, and major bonus if there are pockets for the times you don’t want to carry your beach bag but need somewhere to put your keys and money.
